April 27, 2009 – Poetry Slam Video, New Arts Classes, and Free and Legal Downloads (Wilco and Iron and Wine)

Thanks to all who came out to the Butler Art Center Friday night to catch the poetry slam, co-sponsored by the BC3 Writers Club and the Butler Art Center and hosted by yours truly.  Here’s some video of the winning poet:

Also, a big thanks to everyone who came out the Venango County Humane Society benefit.  One of my photographs documenting the area’s arts and culture was on the silent auction block and I’m pleased to say it brought in some cash for the animals.

A three-session weekend workshop is scheduled on the topic of “Mixed Media on Fabric” at the Oil Valley Center for the Arts in the National Transit Building at 206 Seneca Street at the corner of Seneca and Center Streets in downtown Oil City on May 15-17. The instructor is Anita Roby-Lavery. Hours are 6-9:00 p.m. on May 15, 9-5:00 on May 16 and 2-5:00 on May 17. Class fee is $35 plus a $15 supply fee.

For more information call 677-3707.

For One Week Only, PitchforkTV is streaming Leonard Cohen: Live in London Dance Me To The End Of Love for free.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is tracking how regional Arts Organizations are being affected by the economic downturn.:

The Pittsburgh Symphony's chamber orchestra series -- gone. The International Poetry Forum -- kaput. The Pittsburgh Folk Festival -- missing in action for 2009.

The culprit in all three cases -- money, or rather, lack thereof.
