Somehow, in the all the Super Bowl hoopla, no one noticed that one of the soldiers in the News Herald’s vast AP cut and paste-style coverage was Franklin native Julie Glaubach (although the AP has her listed as a Pittsburgh native. Shame!)

The Governor’s School for the Arts could get the axe in the new budget.

Unbeknownst Pittsburgh! from the Archival Happy Hour Action Group sounds like a fantastically fun event that could easily work in here in Venango.

The News Herald examines how Venango County public libraries are encouraging residents to read the The Call of the Wild by Jack London during a month-long Big Read event.

One of my favorite magazines, MAKE, has:

started a new regular column in search of the technology of the future in the forgotten ideas of the past (and those slightly off the beaten track). Each Tuesday, we'll look at retro-tech, "lost" tech, and the make-do, improvised "street tech" of village artisans and tradespeople from around the globe.

Brother Bean is holding a silent auction for one of their iconic barrel chairs :

own a piece of brotherbean! we have one extra barrel chair that we are going to auction off to the highest bidder! it is an authentic 50's era barrel chair made from a real whiskey barrel. this one is not to be trusted at brotherbean because part of the spring apparatus is broken and the poor soul that sits in it could wind up on their back on the floor! we don't have the ability to fix it and planned to mount it on a permanent base so it couldn't rock or tip and use it that way. but what i really want is a sofa! so let's see what the interest is in this "piece of the bean" and if i can raise enough money to buy a sofa! keep in mind that the new owners of brobean are a non-profit (VTDC) and could totally benefit from your bid! any bidders may submit their bids via myspace. i will notify you ebay style if your bid is the highest or if your bid is still too low.

the bidding will close in a week...sat. night at 10 pm. thankyou so very much!

you may also place bids by calling me at brobean 677-0232. gwen
