December 17, 2008 - First day of gift giving guide, Clarion University Grant and Free and Legal Downloads

Local Bands - I'm putting the last touches to this year's Venangago-go Holiday Mix - if you've got a song you'd like to have considered for it - email me the Mp3 or send a link. Remora Deign - I've already got yours. Thanks.

Local artists/Craftsters/Producers - from now until Dec 22, I'll be profiling local made gifts that can still be purchased for the holidays - if you want the PR, please drop me an email with full information - what teh product is, where it can be purchased, etc.

At Venangoland, Pete Greene reviews the recent local production of The Wizard of Oz.

To start the Gift Giving guide, allow me to recommend melikewhoa! from Titusville, this local artist specializes in resin and metal jewelery and I've been a satisfied customer many times:

Who can resist a ring that cute? Especially for under $10

The Meadville Tribune is continuing to accept photographs taken in December. The criteria is simple: pictures taken in and around Crawford County or of Crawford Countians on vacation or even living elsewhere.
To submit, please send jpeg images to photography@meadvilletribune.com. Be sure to include information such as who the photographer is, when the picture was taken, who is in the picture and any information about the scene that will put it into context.

In a post Monday about Pittsburgh Post-Gazette theatre critic Christopher Rawson taking a buy-out from his job, I wrote, in part, that I disliked PG art criticism "finding that it tends to spend more time talking about the writer than the art and has tastes that reflect the aging boomer demographic of the staff" This morning in the PG Rawson writes in his review of McPherson's "St. Nicholas":

Please pardon my personal reflections -- one legitimate beef about theater critics is that they sometimes inject themselves too much into their reviews. But honest responses to art must include the personal.

What a crazy random happenstance! And a gentlemanly way to respond.

Community organizations are invited to apply for grants to initiate projects to better the community. Both campuses recognize the importance of strengthening their public mission and wish to instill and celebrate the value of partnering with community members and non-profit organizations who propose a project in conjunction with a tenured or tenure-track faculty member or full time staff member.
