November 21, 2008 - Opera, Upcoming Shows, and special offers

I'll be at the Butler Area Public Library's Author Symposium from 10-1 pm tomorrow, so drop by an buy some of my books so my daughter can have Christmas.

My lefty heart rejoiced to see the publication of The Point of Pittsburgh: Production and Struggle at the Forks of the Ohio - a sort of People's History for our metro to the south. Then I saw the price. $50! What good is a People's History, if the people can't afford it?

The Titusville Herald previews this weekend's Light Up Night in Franklin.

Pete Greene of Venangoland passed along this clip of the Franklin News-Herald on the Letterman show:

This Weekend's Shows of Local Interest:
With Brother Bean and the Union room closed, things are pretty slow this weekend. However, The Meth Fx, Nervous Existence, The Bad Moons, The Recovery Kid, Made Not Born, and Jason Richards and Justin Toxicated are playing an all ages show at Oil City's Latonia Theatre from 6 to 10:30. $5 at the door. The show will be chaperoned, to some of you that's a drawback, but I think it's smart - the live show scene here needs to rebuild and the last thing we need is the community turning against it.

Free and Legal Downloads:

Policy Overkill is offering two albums for free and legal download: Happy Havoc Industires and Plug Me In and turn Me On.

Yo Miles! Live at Fillmore Auditorium on March 4, 2000

Drive-By Truckers Live at Phoenix Concert Theatre on November 11, 2008
