September 17, 2008 - Film Fest winners and statistics

The Second Annual Venango Digital Film Festival People's Choice Awards winners are: First Place, the Paul Newbury family of Emlenton for The Emlenton Mill Movie; Second Place, Matt Hovis of Kennerdell for Iron Furnaces of Venango County; Third Place, Jim Jeffries of Pittsburgh for Along the Allegheny; Honorable Mention, Matt Hovis of Kennerdell for The Beetle Shop.

Winners of the screenplay competition are: Michael Moon for "The Love of a Son", a script based on the true story of a mother and son trapped in the great Oil Creek flood and fire of 1892; and Amy Dittman for "A Warning to Young Ladies", a monologue by a young woman who left her wealthy family to marry and moved to a life of hardship in the oil fields. The films will be produced in October, and second auditions will be held in the near future. Interested actors should call 814-677-1260.

Ay POPi! The Post Gazette has a new pop culture blog and, so far, it's dismal. You know the wrong person's writing about pop culture when they use Morley Safer as an authority. Reading it is not unlike watching your drunk uncle dropping hip-hop slang at a wedding reception to show that he's "down".
